Gavin Newsom, Tom Ammiano, and Susan Leal to throw out first pitch at San Francisco Gay Softball League's 30th Anniversary Opening Day.

On Sunday, March 23rd at 10:30 a.m. at Moscone Park in San Francisco, mayoral candidates Gavin Newsom, Tom Ammiano, and Susan Leal will throw out the first pitch at the opening day ceremony of the San Francisco Gay Softball League's 30th Anniversary season.

Also helping to welcome in the season will be the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, members of the Gay Men's Chorus, SFGSL Hall of Famers, and representatives from the NAGAAA (North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance) World Series winning teams.

Opening Day games will immediately precede and follow the ceremony.

In case of rain, the ceremony will take place at Eureka Valley Playground at 18th and Collingwood in the Castro.

45 teams and over 650 members will compete in the San Francisco Gay Softball League this season in three Women's Divisions and three Open Divisions from March to June. Competition culminates on one playoff weekend on July 12-13 and in the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) World Series to be held in Washington D.C. on August 18-23.

Last year nine SFGSL teams competed in the NAGAAA World Series in Portland with the SF Renegades placing 3rd in the B Division, the SF Comets placing 2nd in the B Division, and the Pilsner Panthers placing 1st in the Women's Alternative Division.

In addition to the regular season, the SFGSL organizes The Golden Bear Classic Softball Tournament every Memorial Day at Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale and the Switchhitters Ball at Most Holy Redeemer in the Castro on June 21st.

The SFGSL is a non-profit organization committed to providing an opportunity for individuals to play organized softball in an environment that is safe, healthy, and free of negative attitudes based on differences in sexual orientation.
